(1) A person having a right of retention may collect the fruits produced from the retained article and may apply them to the satisfaction of his or her claim in preference to other creditors; provided, if the fruits are not in the form of money they shall be sold at an auction.
(2) The fruits must first be applied to the payment of interest, the surplus if any, to the principal.
