(1) Upon request of a charterer or consignor, a carrier may issue a sea waybill in lieu of a bill of lading referred to in Article 852 or 855. A sea waybill may be issued in an electronic way according to an agreement between the parties.
(2) Matters listed in the subparagraphs of Article 853 (1) shall be stated in a sea waybill in addition to the indication "sea waybill" thereon, and a carrier shall write his/her name and affix his/her seal, or affix his/her signature, thereon.
(3) The provisions of Article 853 (2) and (4) shall apply mutatis mutandis to sea waybills.[This Article Wholly Amended by Act No. 8581, Aug. 3, 2007]
