(1) A person obtaining a driver's license falling under any of the following subparagraphs shall return (including return by electronic means in cases falling under subparagraphs 4 or 5; hereafter in this Article the same shall apply) it to the commissioner of a City/Do police agency having jurisdiction over that person's domicile within 7 days (in cases falling under subparagraphs 4 and 5, when the driver submits his or her driver's license in order to obtain a new driver's license) from the date such reasons occur: <Amended on Dec. 22, 2020; Jan. 30, 2024>
1. When that person is subjected to disposition to revoke driver's license;
2. When that person is subjected to disposition to suspend driver's license;
3. When that person lost his or her driver's license and finds such lost driver's license after having it reissued;
4. When that person who has obtained a learner's license receives a Class I ordinary driver's license or a Class II ordinary driver's license;
5. When that person has his or her driver's license renewed.
(2) Police officials may directly retrieve (including retrieval by electronic means in cases of mobile driver's licenses; hereafter in this Article the same shall apply) the driver's licenses held by a person who fails to return his or her driver's license, in violation of paragraph (1). <Amended on Jan. 30, 2024>
(3) Where the commissioner of a City/Do police agency has been returned a driver's license pursuant to paragraph (1) 2 or has collected a driver's license from a person under paragraph (1) 2 pursuant to paragraph (2), he or she shall keep such driver's license in custody and return it immediately after the period of suspension expires. <Amended on Dec. 22, 2020>[This Article Wholly Amended on Jun. 8, 2011]
