(1) Where a person has a legal or contractual duty to protect another person who is in need of help due to old age, infancy, illness, or other circumstances abandons such another person, the person shall be punished by imprisonment with labor for not more than three years or by a fine not exceeding five million won.
(2) When a crime prescribed in paragraph (1) is committed on lineal ascendant of the offender or of his or her spouse, the offender shall be punished by imprisonment with labor for not more than ten years or by a fine not exceeding 15 million won.
(3) A person who, in consequence of his or her commission of a crime prescribed in paragraph (1), endangers the life of another, shall be punished by imprisonment with labor for not more than seven years.
(4) A person who, in consequence of his or her commission of a crime prescribed in paragraph (2), endangers the life of another, shall be punished by imprisonment for a limited term of at least two years.[This Article Wholly Amended on Dec. 8, 2020]
