(1) The owners of adjoining land may construct a boundary mark or a fence at their joint expense.
(2) The expense under the preceding paragraph shall be borne by both persons in equal proportions; provided, the expenses of a survey shall be apportioned in proportion to the area of the land.
(3) If there exists any custom different from those provided for in the preceding two paragraphs, such custom shall prevail.
