Where a lineal descendant or sibling who would become an inheritor pursuant to Article 1000(1)1 or 3 dies before the commencement of inheritance or fails to become an inheritor pursuant to Article 1004 or 1004-2, his or her lineal descendant shall become an inheritor in place of the person who dies or fails to become an inheritor.[This Article Wholly Amended on Mar. 17, 2026]
